Comparison of my New (top) and old Snow tires. 215/55 vs 205/50  Both on a 17”.

Kinja'd!!!

The Viking Contact7s seem to be an excellent snow satire in the 2 miles I’ve driven them. Did some emergency stops on snow covered roads and ABS barely kicked on.

205 section? Need to stick some 245s on at least.

Nice!

I’ve recently moved into the great white north, so every time I see a slick patch of road with no traffic around I’m trying out ABS, light throttle, hard throttle, steering inputs, just to see how the car reacts to different cold-related surfaces.

Next time you get a big snowstorm go  find in the parking lot and have some fun. Having experience losing traction really comes in handy

In snow tall and skinny is the way too go.

My summers are 225/45/17 the stock  sport model size.

I’ve got 245s on the front and 255s in the rear. The 255 is the stock rear size, I replaced the 225s on the front with the 245s.

On the M that make sense. But on  a 328? Nah.

The fronts are actually off my M3, and actually made a noticeable difference when chucking it into some corners.

My wife doesn’t see it that way, and definitely didn’t appreciate the beautiful sno-nut I made at the library last Sunday when we were returning her books.

But yeah, you and I are on the same page. I started doing track days at 15 in my CRX, and that definitely taught me a lot more about car control than driving around suburban Atlanta.

Just gotta get used to “well that looks like glare ice, good luck” vs “that’s sand on ice, good luck” vs “fresh powder, traction might be OK” vs “slush on the street, try not to hydroplane but otherwise fine”

You have frozen lakes already? Jealous.

That pic is from 2 years ago in February. The bay hasn’t frozen yet(I live right on Lake Superior),  but I’m sure some smaller inland lakes are getting close to safe.

I’m eagerly waiting for the bays on Lake Champlain to freeze so I can go ice racing again.

They cut an oval race track in the bay here. There’s a kid with a WRX I want to race out there.

New tire purchase in no way related

We build time trial stages on the ice. It’s a great time.

Spot on. This is all about making the most of the contact patch and creating a mechanical advantage for moving forwards through snow. T hose driving exurban miles, on predominantly clear roads in 24F temps, where ice is more of a concern have a different set of circumstances that demand a Winter, not a snow, tire.

Look forward to hearing how these do in snow cold enough to squeak.

Hopefully that will be awhile lol. They do have a TON of sipes tho, I would guess twice as much as my last Bizzacks.  so that should help their cold weather/ice handling.
